The state and
national parks
of
Brazil
are
integral protection
conservation units,
corresponding to the
IUCN
management category II.
They preserve
ecosystems of scenic beauty
with unique or spectacular natural features.
Different from the national parks which are beeing administered by the federal environmental institute
IBAMA, the state parks are administered
by the local forest institute of each state.
In the state of
São Paulo for instance, this is the
Instituto Florestal (IF)
and in
Rio de Janeiro
the Instituto Estadual de Florestas
(IEF).
