In the southern hemisphere the cold temperate climate zone extends from the Antarctic Circle at 66,5 degrees south latitude and the South Pole. The angle of the plane of the sunīs apparent path varies between 23,5° and 0° and the angle of the sunīs rays (Solar Altitude) between 47 and 0 degrees. Day length varies between +/- 0 h and +/- 24 h from 12 h at the Equinox and the average temperatures are between minus 17 and minus 33 degrees Celsius.
 
Polar Zone
 
At the Antarctic Circle the sun doesnīt set (rise) for one day during the Solstices on 21st of December (Summer Solstice) and 21st of June (Winter Solstice). Towards the South Pole the number of polar days (24 h daylight) and polar nights (24 h night) constantly increase. At the South Pole the Sun doesnīt set for half a year during summer and doesnīt rise for half a year during winter.
