The national and
state parks
of
Brazil are
integral protection
conservation units,
corresponding to the
IUCN
management category II.
They preserve
ecosystems of scenic beauty
with unique or spectacular natural features.
In addition to conservation of
biodiversity,
they are valuable for science, environmental education leisure and sustainable
ecotourism.
National parks are are administered by the federal environmental institute
IBAMA while state parks are administered by the local forest institute of each state.
