Visconde de Mauá – Ilha Grande is an advanced level trekking / hiking tour through three protected areas of the Mata Atlântica Biosphere Reserve in the states of Minas Gerais, São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. It is characterized by long day and multiple - day hikes including strong ascents.

Each tour member has to carry his own backpack with provisions for up to five days. Accomodation is in private guest houses or houses of the local communities. At Ilha Grande, camping equipment is needed. An exellent physical condition and constitution is requested in order to manage average daily walking times of 5 – 8 hours and height differences of up to 1000 m under tropical climate conditions.
