Day
1: São Paulo
In the morning visit of the historical center, the japanese village Liberdade and
Little Italy "Bela Vista". After Lunch visit of a howler monkey colony at
Cantareira
State Park.
At night diner at a typical barbecue restaurant
(Churrascaria).
Day 2 – 3: Ilhabela
The next two days are reserved for the
Ilhabela State Park and it’s
caiçara culture, result of the contact of different races,
- european, indian and african -. The first day, walk along the Água
Branca trail and observation of typical
Atlantic
Rainforest
vegetation such as figueira, pau-jacaré, ipê and manacá
da serra. The second day transport to the southern point
and walk on desert trails to Bonete, an tiny fishing village on
the isolated eastern part of the island.
Day 4 – 5: Picinguaba
Picinguaba is one of the main entrances to the
Serra do Mar
Statepark. On our way we hike around one of the peninsulas north of São Sebastião
with 7 deserted beaches, only accessible by feet or by boat.
Beside ruins from the colonial epoch and caiçara villages
inhabited by descendants of slaves who worked on the farms, the
trail crosses banana plantations, bromelia gardens, heliconias and
immense trees such as guapuruvu.
The next day in the morning walk to the deserted
Brava de Almeida beach and in the afternoon exploration of the rainforest trail
Trilha do Jatobá including visit of the historic sugar cane mill "Casa da Farinha".
Day 6 – 7: Juatinga
The next two days we traverse the
Juatinga
Ecological Reserve. Passing the dream beaches Sono, Antigua and Antiguinha
we arrive at the end of the first day at the isolated fishing village Ponta Negra.
After a steep ascent to the pass which leads to the northern part of the peninsula
and a long hike through native Atlantic Rainforest we reach in the evening of the
second day the romantic Cajaiba.
Day 8 – 9: Paraty
After 7 days of trekking we enjoy in the morning the boat transfer to colonial
Paraty. In the afternoon visit
of Paraty´s historical center. The next day hike along a part of the historic
gold trail "Trilha de Ouro" at
Bocaina
National Park and in the afternoon visit of a little cachaça distillery.
Day 10 – 11: Ilha Grande
In the morning visit of the Pedra Branca waterfall and Fazenda Murycana.
Afterwards we continue to Mambucaba, the second important gold
shipping point of the 15th century. In the afternoon, arrival at Angra dos Reis
where we embark to the island of
Ilha Grande.
The next day, either hike to the wild beaches
on the southern part of the island or climb of Pico do Papagaio, with 980 m
one of the islands highest peaks.
Day 12 – 13: Rio de Janeiro
In the morning boat transfer to Angra dos Reis and continuation to the Guaratiba
Biological Reserve where we enjoy the first views on Rio.
The next day visit of
Tijuca National Park including "Corcovado"
and hike to the top of Pico da Tijuca, with 1.022 m the highest elevation of
Rio de Janeiro.
Day 14: Rio de Janeiro – São Paulo
Transfer to São Paulo and return to GB or USA.
