Temperatures depend on latitude and on earth´s position on its orbit around the sun (seasons). The angle of the sun´s rays (solar altitude) and therefore the temperature decreases with increasing latitudes and the proximity of earth to the winter solstice.

Accordingly the earth can be subdivided into the following climate zones:

           • Polar Zone
