Carlos Botelho   Carlos Botelho   Carlos Botelho
The Carlos Botelho State Park is an Integral Protection Conservation Unit of the Atlantic Rainforest Southeast Reserves World Heritage Site and part of the Mata Atlântica Biosphere Reserve in the state of São Paulo. Located 200 km south of the capital in the upper part of Serra da Paranapiacaba, the park protects one of the best conserved portions of Atlantic Rainforest / (Mata Atlântica) in southeastern Brazil (see map).

More than 220 bird species have been registered, among others there are significant populations of jacutinga (Pipile jacutinga) a bird that lives mainly from the fruit of the juçara palm tree (Euterpe edulis). The spider monkey (Brachyteles arachnoides) or muriqui is considered the biggest primate of the Americas.

From a total population of 1.200 species living in Brazil, approximately 600 to 800 can be found within the border of the park. This and other endangered species as the Jaguar (Panthera Onça) are evidence of the high degree of conservation of Carlos Botelho State Park.
