Campos de altitude (altitude fields) is an
ecosystem
of the
Atlantic
Rainforest
biome
that connects above about 2.000 m to the
high montane
altitudinal zone of the
tropical and
seasonal
rainforest ecosystem.
The predominant elements are herbaceous and brushy
species such as poaceae, syperaceae, asteraceae and mimosaceae. The lower brushy species
frequently occur in the middle of a dense gramminoid carpet. The disjoined character and the geographical isolation
of this ecosystem are relevant factors for the occurrence
of
biodiversity
and endemism.
