Rainforest Trails / Brazil - The Atlantic Rainforest / (Mata Atlântica) probably offers the largest number of hiking trails & mountain bike trails (trilhas) in Brazil. Different from North America or Europe, these historic trails were not designed for ecotouristic purposes.

Trails are mostly unmarked, have several bifurcations and it is easy to get lost. Therefore and because of several other natural risks involved, do not enter rainforest trails on your own.

Make sure that the tour operator and tour guide are licensed by the Ministry of Tourism, know the region in detail and are sufficiently prepared to protect you on the trail and to assist you in case of an accident.
