Brazil / Travel & Tours - Brazil is universally recognised as the first among the megadiverse countries. This goes for both biological (15 - 20% of the entire Protected Areas on Planet Earth is to be found in Brazil) and social / cultural diversity (more than 200 indigenous people and a range of local communities live in Brazil).

In order to protect biological and social - cultural diversity, Brazil has established an extense network of protected areas which actually covers more than 2 million sqkm (about 25% of the national territory) and is divided almost equally between protected natural areas or conservation units (unidades de conservação) and indigenous land (terras indígenas).
