Travel & Tours / Brazil - Sustainable use
conservation units
were created with the objective of combining the conservation of
biodiversity, compatible with the rational
use of the natural resources, while respecting the legislation that applies to such resources.
The following conservation units
(
IUCN
- management category IV - VI) fulfill this purpose:
• areas of relevant ecological interest (IV),
• environmental protection areas (V),
• extractive / fauna / sustainable development reserves (VI).
According to a
dossier
about the
Atlantic
Rainforest
published by
RMA in 2001, approximately
230 (53%) of the 436 Brazilian sustainable use conservation units are located within the
Mata Atlântica
Biosphere Reserve.
