Day
1: Rio de Janeiro
Visit of the main highlights of
Rio de Janeiro,
including Sugarloaf (Pão de Açúcar) & Corcovado Mountain
such as a small hike to Pico da Tijuca (1.022 m), the highest elevation of
Tijuca
National Park.
Diner at a typical restaurant at Copacabana beach.
Day 2 - 5: Itatiaia National Park / Visconde de Mauá
Drive through the upper
Paraíba valley to charming
Visconde de Mauá
in the heart of the
Mantiqueira
mountain range.
Traverse through the
high montane
seasonal
rainforest of Serra Negra to the upper section of
Itatiaia
National Park.
Day hike through highly diverse
campos de altitude
to the spring of the Aiuruoca river, passing many amazing
alkaline
rock formations such as Prateleiras, Agulhas Negras, Pedra do Altar or Asa do Hermes.
Visit of some beautiful waterfalls and natural pools of the Maromba and Campo Belo river in the
lower
tropical
part of this fascinating
conservation unit.
Drive to the northern slopes of the Bocaina mountain range past old coffee fazendas and historic villages such as
Bananal or
São José do Barreiro.
Day 6 - 9: Serra da Bocaina National Park
Ascent along the crystal clear waters of the Formoso river to the
Bocaina highlands.
Hike through mixed tropical and
riparian rainforest with the presence of many
Paraná pine
trees to the Veado river at the Atlantic scarp of the Bocaina plateau.
Many bathing opportunities in pools and cascades formed by the Mambucaba river.
Accomodation in houses of local people.
Descent along an ancient gold and (later) coffee trail to the village of Mambucaba.
Transfer to Ilha Grande.
Day 10 - 13: Ilha Grande State Park
Trekking on hidden
submontane and
montane
tropical rainforest trails to peaks, desert beaches, lagoons,
mangrove
areas, local fishing communities
(caiçaras)
and a unique sea cave at the southwestern point of
Ilha Grande.
Day 14: Ilha Grande – Rio de Janeiro
Return to Rio de Janeiro and transport to the international airport. |
