Brazil Tours / History -
Sambaquis are the main brazilian prehistorical
evidence in the
Mata Atlântica region.
These shell mounds or middens with ages between 2 and 8 thousand years com were accumulated by prehistorical collectors
along Brazil'sSouth and Southeast
coast.
These groups used to accumulate the remains of their food (mostly molluscs) together with their artefacts.
The sambaquis were also used as tombs.
