Brazil Travel / Ecosystems - We conduct guided hiking / trekking & mountain bike tours through the tropical rainforest ecosystems of the Atlantic Rainforest biome in south and southeast Brazil.

The dense tropical rainforest (Floresta Ombrófila Densa) is an evergreen, subtropical and tropical, sometimes also called ombrophilous or moist broadleaf forest that occurs along the slopes of the Serra do Mar sea mountain chain.

The open tropical rainforest (Floresta Ombrófila Aberta) is a transitional rainforest ecosystem that connects the Amazon and the Atlantic Rainforest. The mixed tropical rainforest ecosystem (Floresta Ombrófila Mista), also called araucária forest occurs mainly in the state of Paraná.

According to altimetric and pedological (soil) studies, these ecosystems can be further divided into so called altitudinal zones such as lowland, submontane, montane and high montane tropical rainforest, each of them different in species composition and structure.
