Pioneer Formations / (Formações Pioneiras) is the name given to the group of ecosystems of the Atlantic Rainforest Biome which occur in the lowlands of the coastal plains. According to their level of influence by fresh or saltwater, three main systems can be distinguished:

           • restinga (marine influence)

           • mangrove (fluvial - marine influence)

           • caxetal (fluvial influence)
