Adventure Tours / Brazil - The
tropical savanna
climate of
Rio de Janeiro and adjacent
Tijuca National Park, is characterized by a distinct cool - dry and warm - humid season,
with an annual average temperature of 24 ° C (Köppen - Geiger climate classification
Aw).
Interestingly, yearly average precipitation in Rio de Janeiro is less than half of Santos or
Ubatuba.
This is mainly due to the
Guanabará Graben which pushes the
Serra do Mar
far to the inland. Therefore, the larger part of humid air masses from the Atlantic Ocean passes the city and just rains down in the mountains (see, for example
Serra dos Órgãos).
