Mata Atlântica

Mata Atlântica or Floresta Pluvial Atlântica is the Portuguese name for Atlantic Forest or better said Atlantic Rainforest in South, Southeast and Northeast Brazil.

While most people limit this term to Brazil's dense evergreen coastal rainforest, Mata Atlântica, in reality is a complex terrestrial biome. It is composed of pioneer formations and lowland rainforest on the coast, submontane, montane and high montane tropical and seasonal rainforest on the slopes of the Mar / Mantiqueira - mountain system such as campos de altitude in the higher elevations.
